Dozenalism (the position advocating for revamping our arithmetic around a base of twelve rather than ten) is an odd but strong passion of mine. Here’s a collection of stuff that I’ve done relating to it. This will be one of the “frequently updated” posts, so it can also be found in the sidebar.
- Dozenal Mathematics: A basic explanation of number systems, the dozenal system, and why dozenalism is better than decimalism. Simple blog post.
- A Primer on Dozenalism: An explanation of number systems in general, the dozenal system in particular, and why the dozenal system is the best possible number system for human beings.
- The dozenal Suite: A suite of dozenal programs. Includes dec, which converts dozenal numbers to decimal; doz, which converts decimal numbers to dozenal; dozword, which writes out dozenal numbers in words; tgmconv, which converts metric and imperial measurements to TGM and vice versa; and dozdc, a complete scientific calculator (with trig functions, logs, and so on) which works only in dozenal. Happy mathing!
- dozenal: A LaTeX package, along with both Metafont and Type 1 Postscript fonts for the Pitman characters, allowing dozenal typesetting in LaTeX. Very useful.
- Dozenalism and Time: Explores briefly the great advantages of measuring time in dozenal units.
- Units of the TGM System: A complete reencoding of the scanned version of the units reference tables for Pendlebury’s seminal TGM: A Coherent Dozenal Metrology. The old version was just a scan; this version allows searching, copying and pasting, and the like.
Dozenalism ftw! Praise be to Christ the King!
Welcome to my blog, which consists largely of my own rantings and musings on Life, the Universe, and Everything (hint: Douglas Adams already told us that the answer's 42!), with little tidbits on the news and such. Browse around and read; let me know what you think, if you have the will.
